JOSEPH KIGOZI

Joseph is a very social and confident 5 year old boy. He loves playing football and helping others. He‘s favorite dish is rice and beef whereas red is his favorite color. He has three siblings and he’s the youngest; his sister Prisca is also under the care of Wells of Hope. Joseph’s dream is to become a pastor.

Joseph and his siblings stay with their mother who struggles alone to make ends meet. When she tried to seek for support from her husband’s family, they threatened to take her children away from her. In order to survive, she digs on plantations and washes clothes for people.

Joseph’s father was sentenced to 40 years in prison.

PAUL MWAMBA

Paul is a 6 year old boy who enjoys playing football and helping his fellow children at school.  His favorite color is blue whereas Irish potatoes are his favorite dish. He has two sisters and one of them, Agnes is under the care and support of Wells of Hope. His dream after finishing school is to become a policeman.

He stays with his mother who ploughs gardens for other people in the community in order to generate income for sustaining the family. When Wells of Hope visited the family, they were staying with a friend after their house was burnt down due to mob justice following the father’s crime.  His father is an inmate serving 45 years in prison.

PRISCA NANGENDO

Prisca

Prisca is a very outgoing, intelligent and friendly 6 year old girl in preprimary. She loves playing with her friends and singing. Her favorite dish is rice and beef whereas pink is her favorite color. She has three siblings and her younger brother, Joseph is also under the care and support of Wells of Hope. Her dream is to become a lawyer.

JONATHAN SSERUNGO

Jonathan is seven years old in preprimary at Wells of Hope Junior School. He is a very intelligent boy. His favorite color is yellow and his favorite dish is rice with beef. He wants to become a doctor when he completes school. He has four siblings and one of his sisters, Leticia is under the care of Wells of Hope.

Jonathan stays with his very old helpless grandmother in a muddy house without windows and doors. Before going to school, they used to first go to the garden to help their grandmother otherwise they would miss food. Their mother passed on (3 years after the father was imprisoned) and their father is in prison serving 45 years.

ROSEMARY ORISHABA

Rosemary is a 6 year old girl at Wells of Hope Junior School. She is very outgoing; she enjoys playing with dolls, dancing, playing dodge ball and playing on the swings. Her favorite color is orange, and she wants to become a teacher in future.

Before joining Wells of Hope, she used to stay with her mother; who is a peasant farmer. She used to grow beans, but with the little income she earned, she could not afford her daughter’s school fees; and as a result Rosemary started skipping school. At the time Wells of Hope visited the family, Rosemary had been chased away from school because her mother had not paid all the fees; she was in the garden with her mother. Her mother had gone with her to the garden with no solution at all. They used to go without food and if they were lucky, it was one meal a day.

Rosemary’s father is serving a long sentence at Upper prison Luzira.

RUTH NAMWANJE

Ruth is a nine year old girl at Wells of Hope. She loves singing and dancing; her favorite color is blue whereas sweet potatoes and beans is her favorite dish. She has four siblings and her brother Edison is under the care and support of Wells of Hope. She wants to be an air hostess after school.

After the imprisonment of their father, her dad’s relatives forced them out of their father’s land claiming that they were cursed and that they don’t want to associate with them. Their mother became helpless because life became so hard that she could no longer sustain their education as well as feed them. Before joining Wells of Hope, Ruth had dropped out of school because her mother couldn’t afford to cater for her school fees. Ruth’s father is serving 40 years in prison.

JENNIFER MARY IBIAU

Jennifer is a 9 year old girl at Wells of Hope Junior School. She joined Wells of Hope in 2014. She’s very social and likes playing on the swings. Her favorite food is rice; and red is her favorite color. One of Jennifer’s siblings, Daniel is also under the Wells of Hope Education Support Program. Jennifer wants to be a nurse in future.

Before joining Wells of Hope, Jennifer lived with her mother and siblings in Serere district-Eastern Uganda. Her mother used to depend on farming for a living with very many responsibilities since she has 5 siblings under her care. With her low income, Jennifer’s mother could not provide education to her children. Jennifer got to know meet her father for the very first time when Wells of Hope took her to visit him in prison; it was a very emotional day.

Jennifer’s father is serving a long sentence at Murchison Bay Prison. He’s very glad that he got to meet his children and that they are in school; something he never imagined that would ever happen.

DIAN KYALIMPA

Dian

Dian is a very friendly and beautiful 8 year old girl under the care of Wells of Hope. She loves playing on swings and playing dodge ball. Her favorite color is green whereas rice and beef is her favorite dish. She has 7 siblings and her elder sister Lydia is under the care and support of Wells of Hope. Her dream is to become a social worker after school.

After the imprisonment of her dad, her mum became helpless with time and decided to take Dian and her two siblings to their grandmother. This really affected Dian because they were a happy family. Her grandmother is 75 years old; she is weak and too sickly to help them.

Her father is serving 15 years in prison.

Leticia is a beautiful 9 year old girl at Wells of Hope. She enjoys playing dodge ball and dancing. Rice, plantain and ground nuts is her favorite dish. Her favorite color is yellow. She is Jonathan’s older sister. She wants to become a teacher when she completes school.

Lucky is a very active boy at Wells of Hope Junior School; he’s 9 years old. He enjoys playing football with his friends. His favorite color is red and he wants to become a policeman in future. Lucky has a sisters, Ritah who is also under Wells of Hope care.

Before joining Wells of Hope, Lucky used to stay with his grandmother who was his sole caregiver. She’s a peasant farmer; and she struggles to put food on the table. With the little income she earns, Lucky’s grandmother cannot afford to pay school fees for her grandchildren. They used to live in a deplorable state; they used to go without food; if they were lucky, it was one meal a day. Lucky’s mother abandoned him at his grandmother’s place. His father is serving 30 years at Luzira Upper prison.

HENRY OBED KAKOZI

Henry

Henry is a humble and very active 8 year old boy. He loves singing in church and playing football. His favorite color is purple whereas sweet potatoes and beans are his favorite dish. He wants to become an instrumentalist in the future; by sponsoring him, you will enable him attain his future dream. He is the youngest among his 8 siblings.

Henry stays with his 83 year old grandmother who went through great tension due to his father’s crime. She is too traumatized and weak to care for Henry. Henry’s mother passed on when he was one week old leaving him with his father who was imprisoned a year after.

Henry has no hope of ever staying with his father because he was sentenced to life imprisonment.

After the imprisonment of their dad, her mum became helpless and decided to take them to their grandmother. This really affected Lydia and her siblings because they were a happy family. Her grandmother is 75 years of age; she is weak and too sick to help them.

Hassan M

Hassan is a quiet 16 year old boy at Wells of Hope Junior School. He likes to play football and enjoys eating bananas and groundnuts.

Before joining Wells of Hope, Hassan used to stay with his mother who is a peasant farmer. Hassan had been skipping school because his mother could not afford school fees or money to buy him scholastic materials. While at home, they used to have one meal a day.

Hassan’s father is on death row at Luzira upper prison.
