“I silently could not hold my tears of praises to God, tears of joy and ecstasy “: Celebrating Christmas With Children Of Imprisoned Parents

“MARY DID YOU KNOW”

Mary, did you know that your baby boy
Would one day walk on water?
Mary, did you know that your baby boy
Would save our sons and daughters?
Did you know that your baby boy
Has come to make you new?

This child that you delivered, will soon deliver you
Mary, did you know that your baby boy
Would give sight to a blind man?
Mary, did you know that your baby boy
Would calm the storm with his hand?

………………

The Party MC asked his co-MC, “did you know, did you know that today we would hold this party? Did you know today we would be here? Did you know that…, Did you know”; and the Co-MC answered, “Yes and No” to the questions!

To me these words echoed in my mind and indeed as the children did their creative dance on the same song, I silently could not hold my tears of praises to God, tears of joy and ecstasy as I found myself asking, “Ellen did you know, did you know that we would have this party this year with all the challenges and pain? Did you know that today you would see these children performing the Christmas presentations so well?”; and indeed, this went deeper with questions flowing, “did you know what Wells of Hope would be? As a little girl, did you know that you would one day serve prisoners and their families?”

Did you know that as you were going out on Christmas Day in 2003 with directions from the inmates in Upper and Women Prison, Luzira, condemned to death row, life imprisonment and serving long sentences 10 years above, to trace for their children that they had left in the community, so that you give them the small presents/gifts you had bought them on behalf of their fathers and mothers, that, that was the birth of the Children’s Education Support Program at Wells of Hope? Ellen did you know that the children we brought to join Wells of Hope from their communities who had lost hope of ever being in school,15, 10, 9 … years ago, with no self-esteem, withdrawn and stigmatized in their communities, would be the ones performing with so much confidence today, exhibiting so much talent and looking so handsome and beautiful?

At that moment, scriptures like Jeremiah 29:11, Romans 8:28, Isaiah 9:6, Isaiah 61:1 – 5, Matthew 25:36 became so evident and I was even more humbled to realize that our Father God gave us the very best gift to us at Christmas and He Himself sends us out to give hope to those who have lost hope and to fulfill the plans that He has for every human being He has created and it is upon us to say “Yes” or “No” to Him and as long as we say “Yes” He Himself has and will provide for the resources to fulfill the plans that He has for everyone that He has created!

This revelation gave me so much joy and excitement as I joined the children in all the activities that they had prepared. We danced along; we cheered; we cut cake; we ate ice cream; and indeed celebrated the best gift ever given to mankind of Jesus Christ and the hope of having a bright future for children with incarcerated parents!

Yes, Ellen did you know that God Himself would bring to Wells of Hope people with a heart of serving with you? Did you know that the LORD would touch people’s hearts to stand with you spiritually, financially, emotionally and physically to enhance the Kingdom of God as you serve prisoners and their families?

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A BLESSED 2021 TO YOU ALL OUR FRIENDS AND PARTNERS!
