| When
parents are sent to prison, the impact of crime goes far beyond
the victim to hit at the children who are all the time left vulnerable.
These children are affected and left vulnerable to the problems
in society such as HIV/AIDS, prostitution, street children, rape,
sexual abuse and manipulation. In most cases the wives of prisoners
have remarried leaving children to relatives or to child headed
homes, the family incomes have dwindled leading to child labour
increased rates of school drop outs, malnourished children and worse
still HIV/AIDS whose prevalence rates are alarming.
If the prisoner is the bread winner, families are often left with
no source of income which usually leads to enlarging the
cycle of poverty. If the prisoner is a single parent, the children
will have no one left with. In African community, since it’s
the women who care most, if the prisoner is the mother, the situation
is almost the same, because the father of the children will go ahead
to marry another woman and create a new family and the children
will be left parentless.
There are situations when children are imprisoned along with their
mothers, these children share in the punishment of their parents.
Every year Wells of Hope helps to lessen the
pain of a parent in prison by caring for these children. We want
to show these children who are always forgotten and hidden away
in society around Christmas time that they are a treasure and there
is someone who cares and loves them.
Please join and we work together to bring hope and love to
these hidden treasures;
We need gifts and volunteers
for this Christmas season. Currently we need Money to support the
families during Christmas and gifts for the children. We have already
began visting the families, and they are eager to attend the party
which will bring together all the families of inmates we care for
,the volunteers,partners and well wishers.
Most importantly we need volunteers; we encourage groups to participate,
especially since volunteers will visit in groups of two or threes.
please contact us and we partner.
